Sugar for my Honey
I’ve now completed fitting sugar boards and dry boards to the hives.
I also topped up the half-empty sugar board on Queen Mab’s hive with some fresh sugar bergs.

The only hive I haven’t fitted with a sugar board and dry board is the thermosolar hive, which houses Queen Queenie’s colony. The thermosolar hive still retains a super of the bees’ honey, which should be enough to see them through the winter, and it’s already got sturdy walls and a ventilated roof so is probably less in need of a dry board than the other hives. Though the real reason for not giving it a sugar board and dry board is that it’s a different shape and it would be more difficult to make parts to fit it.
That’s finally it for disturbing the bees this winter. Now I’ll leave them in peace to get on with their pollen collection and the all-important raising of the new year’s brood.
